SDC Plasma Carburization Equipment
New Technology for Low-temperature Plasma Carburization of Titanium and Stainless Steel
In developing their products, SDC Tanaka focuses on decreasing the weight along with rust-proof and strength properties. They have made great strides in improving the wear resistance of titanium, which has long been a problem, as well as improving galling and burning characteristics, greatly expanding the range of options available for materials to use in mechanical parts.
Their technology has even been selected by the National Space Development Agency of Japan for titanium parts used in the International Space Station. To ensure that the mechanical properties of titanium alloys and the corrosion resistance of stainless steel do not deteriorate, special treatment is required at low temperatures less than 700°C.
With approval from Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, SDC Tanaka developed and manufactured their SDC plasma carburize, which incorporates a rapid cooling vacuum heat treatment furnace and a high-performance micro-pulse plasma power source.
The rapid cooling vacuum heat treatment furnace is a hybrid type that simultaneously performs aging and plasma carburization on titanium alloys. This technology is helping improve industry as a next-generation way to create advanced parts for aerospace, automobiles, food, pharmaceuticals and information devices.
