Wakita was established in 1988 to handle the development, manufacturing and maintenance of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Takasago Machinery Works, involved in the production of large heating and cooling equipment for an entire urban district containing large buildings. They continue in that role to this day. In July 2010, they created a new Planning and Development Office to enter new fields to start developing new business. Manager of the Planning and Development Office, Osamu Tada established this new division in March of 2006, where he continues the operations and management at Wakita. Under this new division, Wakita began planning, development and marketing of the world's first 3D expression surface decorative film created by their partner Tatsuta Chemical, a maker of plastic films. As companies producing such varied products as bags, cases, household electronics and automotive interior parts expressed a strong interest in the textured plastic, Wakita studied the technology and processing involved as well as product applications, subsequently becoming involved in various other fields, working as facilitator in everything from simple material sales to the further process of machining and molding.

Design and Expression Exceeding Reality with OSD

Next-generation 3D Design Work for a Variety of Product Surfaces

By making it possible to express natural wood, leather and fabric with resin materials in a realistic three-dimensional manner, Wakita can mass produce products with a consistent surface, whose patterns and colors surpass those of natural materials. Wakita also has available a technical fabric used exclusively in the interior of luxury cars made by Italian car manufacturer Maserati. This fabric is bound with a plastic film and form it as a surface material in volume production. They also insert a layer of urethane or polyethylene foam between the technical fabric and film to create a decorative material that can be formed with elasticity. This produces a lightweight material that saves energy and is safe for use by people of all ages. Sample applications include flexible liquid crystal television frames and toilet seats that are gentle to the skin. Used for automobile dashboards nonreflective to the sun-shine, the material is flexible, gentle to the touch and safe for use. It is a new-generation material for surface decoration with an excellent resistance against fingerprints and oil from hands, is not slippery and has a soft touch making it popular for use in computers, mobile phones and next-generation communication devices.
