すごく面白い本を読みました！

「世界の日本人ジョーク集」早坂 隆　著

単純なジョーク集というよりは、外国人の日本観が良く分かる本です。
国際ビジネスに関わっていたり、外資系に勤務している人にお薦めですね。

その中のジョークを一つ紹介しましょう。これはいわゆるethnic joke（人種に関するジョーク）です。

ちなみに、本は日本語で書かれています。
僕が少しアレンジして適当に英語に直したものです。
多分、色々なバージョンがあると思います。

★Situation（状況）
You saw a lady drowning in the river and you want to save her, but you cannot swim.
So you decided to ask a man beside you for help. How do you persuade him to jump in the river to save her?

「川で溺れている女性を発見。助けたいがあなたは泳げない。そこで隣の男性に頼むことに。

問題となったのは、一部の管理職や社員の時間外手当についてです。
米では、トップレベルの管理職を除いて、40時間以上の労働には1.5倍の時間外手当を支払う規定（the Fair Labor Standards Act）があるのですが、ウォールマートはこれを遵守していなかったのです。
労働省は過去2年間に遡って未払い給与を払うように要請したのですが、ウォールマートが自主的に5年間分を支払うことにしたわけです。
今回の支払は平均すると１人375ドル、一番多い人では約4万ドルにもなるようです。
