In Osaka, many traditional crafts, nurtured by its history and culture, have been passed down to the present day.
These items are carefully handcrafted using traditional methods, bringing peace and comfort to the lives of those who use them.
These "traditional crafts of Osaka" are promoted both domestically and internationally through promotional activities carried out by Osaka Prefecture, the Osaka Industrial Promotion Organization, and various other support organizations.
About the Marking System
To help people recognize that these are traditional crafts, there is a marking system in place as follows:
Regarding traditional crafts designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry
Based on the "Law Concerning the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries," which came into effect on May 25, 1974, these are designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and require the following conditions:
Approval Number R7-108
- Items primarily used in daily life.
- The main processes are done by hand.
- It is manufactured using traditional techniques and methods with a history of over 100 years.
- The same raw materials used are those that have been continuously used for over 100 years.
- The production area must consist of 10 or more companies, or 30 or more people involved in the production.
This traditional mark is affixed to "traditional craft products" designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Regarding traditional crafts designated by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture
Based on the "Guidelines for the Designation of Traditional Crafts of Osaka Prefecture," which came into effect on April 1, 1985, these are designated by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture and must meet the following requirements:
Approval Number R7-108
- The main processes are done by hand.
- It is manufactured using traditional techniques and methods with a history of over 100 years.
- The same raw materials used are those that have been continuously used for over 100 years.
This "Osaka Tradition Mark" is a mark affixed to "Osaka Traditional Crafts" designated by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture.
