Product and Technology Introduction

IH heat treatment

Introducing IH heat treatment technology

Product and Technology Introduction

IH (high-frequency induction) hardening contract processing: immediate delivery, prompt response, and reliable service.

<We'll solve your heat treatment problems! - CFD Project>

Immediate Delivery: For cut-to-size materials, mass-produced items will be delivered the next day, and non-mass-produced items will be delivered within two days. We also accept orders for single items.
Immediate response: We will respond to requests for quotes for contract processing projects received before 4 PM on weekdays within 2 hours.
Peace of mind: We also provide comprehensive services other than IH hardening, such as pre-heat treatment, pre- and post-machining, distortion correction, shot blasting, and painting.
Fuji Electronics Industry can help with problems like "There's no one who can handle prototyping," "Our equipment can't handle sudden increases in production," and "We can't heat-treat some of our press-formed parts!" The secret is our heat-treating contract processing service, "CFD Project (The Cube Fast Flexible Fine Delivery Project)."

Example of an automotive crankshaft

In the development of new products such as automotive parts, it is necessary to repeatedly create prototypes before the specifications are finalized. Fuji Electronics collaborates with customers from the design stage, contributing to prototype development with high-precision thermal processing technology to find the optimal shape and physical properties for the parts' performance and production process.

Proprietary IH heat treatment technology to meet customer needs

■ IH hardening offers excellent environmental benefits (*IH: Induction Heating)
• Design, sales, and contract manufacturing of quenching equipment utilizing IH technology, which offers superior energy efficiency compared to conventional heat treatment methods.

■ High technical evaluation
• As of April 1, 2011, there were 168 intellectual property rights, including patents.
• We have strong support from major companies in the automotive, machine tool, and construction machinery industries.
We have a track record of supplying products to 20 countries overseas.

■The key to precision hardening technology: a uniquely developed semi-open coil
• Forms a uniform hardened layer in the necessary areas, even on uniquely shaped parts.
(Unusually shaped parts: constant velocity joint shafts, crankshafts, etc.)
• Significant improvement in the fatigue strength and torsional strength of the component itself.
• Short processing time, energy-saving, and high work efficiency.

Environmentally friendly, highly efficient, and high-quality elemental technologies.

The shift from conventional carburizing quenching to induction heating (IH) quenching in the hardening process will greatly contribute to environmental protection by significantly reducing CO2 emissions and preventing the generation of harmful substances. However, the heat processing of large construction machinery parts such as idlers, rollers, and slewing wheels has relied on carburizing quenching due to their specifications.

In response to this, Fuji Electronics has achieved sufficient precision and high productivity even when processing large parts using the IH hardening method by developing a semi-open coil and devising a short-time, high-power heating and cooling method.

One of the key technologies that contributes to achieving particularly high quality is immersion spray cooling. Immediately after heating is complete, the workpiece is submerged in cooling water, and a stream of water is ejected from a jacket underwater. This prevents air pockets from entering, allowing for the formation of a uniform hardened layer without uneven heating. Furthermore, the state of the hardened layer can be controlled with high precision by controlling the quenching water temperature and stirring speed. This technology has resulted in a significant improvement in the quality and mechanical properties of the workpiece.

<FUJI-ELOMAT oscillator with 95% conversion efficiency>

Fuji Electronics' transistor inverter "FUJI-ELOMAT" overcomes the shortcomings of series resonant transistor inverters by employing a parallel resonant circuit. It achieves stable low-voltage output similar to that of a household outlet, highly efficient power conversion, and simultaneous heat treatment of multiple components.

Furthermore, because it supports a wide frequency range of 1kHz to 120kHz and 50kHz to 600kHz, it can be used regardless of the type of workpiece or hardening depth, eliminating the need to own multiple machines depending on the hardening specifications.
Furthermore, the "FUJI-ELOMAT" boasts an industry-leading frequency conversion efficiency of 95%. Generally, the higher the frequency conversion efficiency of an oscillator, the more efficient the heating device becomes, and the less heat is generated due to the loss of electrical energy, thus saving energy required for cooling.
In fact, customers who have replaced their vacuum tube or thyristor oscillators with "FUJI-ELOMAT" and switched to the Fuji Electronics heat treatment method have been extremely satisfied with the significant energy savings of approximately 80%.

Our unique "precision hardening technology" enables homogeneous heat treatment.

High-frequency induction heating technology with excellent thermal efficiency

Fuji Electronics Industry has achieved high-strength, high-precision heat treatment of steel parts using its independently developed "high-frequency induction heating device." Steel parts have the property of increasing in strength through heating and rapid cooling, and high-frequency induction heating technology utilizes high frequency in the heating mechanism.
"The basic principle is the same as an induction cooktop. It doesn't use direct flame, but a high-frequency current is passed through it to generate magnetism. The principle is that heat is generated due to the electrical resistance caused by this magnetism passing through an unheated object," says President Hiroko Watanabe.
The greatest feature of this heat treatment equipment using high-frequency induction heating is its ability to heat materials uniformly and evenly, according to their shape and material properties. Its total system proposals, including cooling systems, have earned it high praise in various industries such as industrial machinery, machine tools, and construction machinery. Furthermore, it boasts a high market share domestically for heat treatment of automotive engine-related parts.
"By using a special coil called a semi-open coil, we can heat-treat parts with complex shapes. The range of steel parts that can be applied to this technology is expected to increase even further in the future. High-frequency induction heating is highly thermally efficient, making it an energy-saving and environmentally friendly technology," says President Watanabe.

Numerous patents and utility models are a testament to our commitment.

The company's processing technology is the result of many years of solid research. Since 2008, the research and development team has been separated into an independent Technical Development Department, and a team of 12 people conducts daily research and development in a research laboratory equipped with prototype machines and other facilities.
The company already holds over 200 patents and utility models. Because of this, many of its engineers are highly dedicated, and developing new equipment involves creating prototypes and engaging in numerous discussions with customers, which takes considerable time.
It's true that it's challenging because the conditions initially assumed change, or cheaper raw materials become available, requiring constant adjustments. Sometimes, heated discussions even occur with clients.

Emphasis on total cost proposals

"Because we're a small company, internal communication is easy. We can also have close information exchange between sales and engineers," says the company, highlighting the advantages of being a small to medium-sized enterprise.
Furthermore, they not only focus on their own heat treatment technology, but also emphasize total cost proposals that include the processes before and after it. "Every company is thinking about how to reduce processes and lower costs. It's also important to raise the overall technological level of the industry." This broad perspective on technological development is a major strength of the company.
